Preserved juniper foliage mounted on natural California grape wood, worked into the low, layered spread of an old bonsai. The juniper is a green mound procumbens, grown and manicured to maturity as a live plant and then preserved without harsh chemicals. The grape wood forms the trunk and the heavy lower limbs, and because that wood grows into its own shape rather than being carved, every tree takes a different line. No two are alike in form or in color.
The tree stands about 20 inches tall and 16 to 18 inches across, so it works at console, counter and desk height rather than at floor scale. It arrives planted in a shallow glazed pot with moss dressed over the surface, ready to set down as it comes.
What you are buying is the look of decades of training without the schedule that produces it. There is no watering and no pruning to keep up, which is why preserved bonsai ends up in offices, spa rooms, hotel lobbies and reading corners where a live tree would be one more thing to look after. Expect the piece that ships to differ a little from the photograph, because each one is built around a different piece of wood.
