Deer topiary
A deer topiary is a doe, stag or fawn over welded steel, standing, grazing or sitting. Ours come mossed or as bare galvanized frames, from a small sitting fawn to a life-size stag. Antlers are the hard part. They have to survive weather and handling and still look like antlers, so they are built into the frame, not added on.

Mossed
Sphagnum moss packed over the steel frame by hand. It is green from day one and can be planted into later, and ivy-planted pieces can be ordered too.

Delivery, timing and terms.
How it arrives
Small pieces ship by UPS Ground. Large pieces travel by freight, and the delivery is quoted with the piece, so you see the full cost before anything is charged.
How long it takes
Pieces marked ready to ship leave within a few working days. Pieces built to order take 4 to 10 weeks, plus the delivery. Have a date? Send it with your request and we confirm it before you order.
Price and terms
A price on a card is what the piece costs. Custom and large pieces are quoted with delivery, usually within hours. Every custom piece is made for one client, so the schedule, deposit and any changes are agreed with you when you approve the quote.
Antlers are the engineering problem.
The antlers are welded into the frame as part of the structure. They are thin, they stick out a long way, and they are the first thing anyone grabs or catches a sleeve on, so they cannot be a decoration added afterwards.
Antlers also change how a deer is covered. Moss will not hold on a thin section the way it holds on a haunch, so antlers are usually left as clean galvanized wire or wrapped tightly. That is one reason a deer looks so good as a bare frame: the antlers are the drawing.
Lit pieces are in lighted animal topiary. The seasonal ones sell out well before December.
A bare deer needs nothing; a mossed one needs misting.
Mist a mossed deer through dry spells and refresh the moss every year or so. A bare frame needs nothing until you plant it, and turf or artificial pieces need only an occasional rinse.
The galvanized steel underneath lasts for decades outdoors, and it is what decides how long the deer lasts.

A pair of reindeer with wide, branching antlers, one on each side of a front door or a shop entrance. Dress them with ribbon or garland for the season. Send us the height you want and the date you need them by.

A stag in mid leap, rising from a low base, as a bare galvanized frame for a gate pillar, a driveway island or a roundabout. It can be planted or left as open wire. Custom frames are built to your drawing or photo.

Before you order
Deer topiary questions, answered.
Are the antlers fragile?
No. They are welded into the frame, not attached afterwards, and that is what stops them snapping in handling or weather. Left bare and galvanized, they also look their best against a winter sky.
Can a deer be lit for Christmas?
Yes, as a commission. We do not hold lit deer in stock: the lit pieces on the shelf today are dogs. Order well before the season, because build time is four to ten weeks.
What sizes?
From small sitting fawns up to life-size stags. Every listing gives the exact height, length and depth.
Can they stay outside?
A bare galvanized frame can stay out all year. A mossed deer does better somewhere sheltered, because sun and driving rain wear sphagnum down over a season.
Can we have a group?
Yes. A doe with a fawn, or a stag with a small herd, is a common commission, and a group looks better on an open lawn than a single animal.
