A stag deer standing 60 inches tall, built on a welded wire frame and packed with sphagnum moss so the coat reads soft and green from right across a lawn.
The frame comes first. Wire is bent and welded to a scale drawing, and the gallery follows the sequence: the bare welded frame, the frame wrapped in mesh ready for planting, then the finished animal under moss or foliage. A standing pole anchors the deer into the ground, so it looks like it walked in rather than like it was set on a plinth. The antlers stay as bare metal on the finished buck, which is what holds the outline of the head at a distance.
Deer go out singly and in groups. A standing buck on his own closes the end of a lawn or a driveway sweep. A buck with a sitting doe fills the gap between two trees. A family with a fawn suits larger grounds, hotel lawns and Christmas displays.
