Swan topiary
A swan topiary is built around a curve. If the line of the neck is wrong, nothing else can save it. Ours are welded galvanized steel finished in moss or outdoor foliage, for ponds, formal gardens, entrances and weddings, from a tabletop bird to a life-size pair. Galvanized welds and all, a tired swan can be re-covered, not replaced.

Sphagnum moss packed over the steel frame by hand. It is green from day one and can be planted into later, and ivy-planted pieces can be ordered too.

Delivery, timing and terms.
How it arrives
Small pieces ship by UPS Ground. Large pieces travel by freight, and the delivery is quoted with the piece, so you see the full cost before anything is charged.
How long it takes
Pieces marked ready to ship leave within a few working days. Pieces built to order take 4 to 10 weeks, plus the delivery. Have a date? Send it with your request and we confirm it before you order.
Price and terms
A price on a card is what the piece costs. Custom and large pieces are quoted with delivery, usually within hours. Every custom piece is made for one client, so the schedule, deposit and any changes are agreed with you when you approve the quote.
The neck is the sculpture.
The neck is drawn and bent before the body is built, because the body can be adjusted later and the curve cannot. That one line runs from the water up through the breast and over the head.
The neck also takes the most punishment outdoors. It is the thinnest section and carries the most leverage, so it is galvanized like the rest and built heavier than it looks.

Mist the moss, and the steel looks after itself.
A mossed swan needs misting through dry spells and new moss every year or so. A bare frame needs nothing until you plant it. Turf and artificial pieces need an occasional rinse, and no watering, trimming or seasonal work.
Galvanized steel lasts for decades outdoors, and the frame is what decides how long your swan lasts.

Swan topiary questions, answered.
Can a swan topiary sit by water?
Yes, and that is where swans look best. Set it on a level footing above the waterline, not in the water, so the base does not stand wet.
Do you make pairs?
Often. A pair looks better than a single bird at an entrance, and the two are usually built as mirror-image poses rather than identical ones.
What finishes?
The swans in stock are mossed or bare galvanized frames, and powder coat is an optional finish on the frame. Outdoor artificial foliage can be made to order where the piece has to hold its color with no upkeep.
Can it be restored later?
Yes, and the galvanized frame is the reason. If the steel is sound, a tired piece is stripped, re-coated and re-covered rather than replaced.
Is it suitable for a wedding?
Yes, swans are hired and bought for weddings often. Tell us the date early, because build time is four to ten weeks.
