The swan topiary is welded first as an open steel frame, the neck curved back over the wing and the body ribbed like a hull, then packed with moss until only the seams show. One of the photographs was taken at a mini-golf course, where the swan sits in a mulched bed of red roses beside the water hazard. That is the setting it suits: low planting around it, open ground behind.
It carries on a pole rather than on feet. The pole runs down through the body and sets into the ground in cement, so the swan sits above the bed instead of in it, and there is no base plate to hide.

Moss on an outdoor piece fades and thins. One of the gallery shots shows a swan whose moss has browned right off. Keep it damp if the piece is planted, and re-moss the surface when it starts to open up.
