Choose a live boxwood cone if you have sun, water and patience. If you lack any one of them, choose an artificial cone. Its only care is a rinse when dusty.
How do you size a cone pair for a doorway?
Aim for cones between a third and half the height of the door, pot included. That is tall enough to frame the door and short enough not to crowd the entry.
Match the pots to each other before anything else, because symmetry is what the eye reads first. On steps, place the pair on the widest tread, never the threshold, so the door swings free and the cones do not get in the way.
