This bumble bee topiary is a custom commission built on a welded steel wire frame: a rounded, segmented body with wire wings and antennae rising from the top. Past work in this shape includes a bee topiary built for the Regenstein Learning Campus at a botanic garden, installed in a flower bed setting.
The finished piece has a clipped green foliage body with small lights woven through it, on a stand set into a paved base. It also exists as a bare wire frame, showing the same shape without foliage — useful as a look at the underlying construction before the foliage is added. Because it is hand-built, individual pieces vary slightly from each other.
The frame is welded steel, built to stand outdoors on its mounting stand. As a moss or foliage-covered piece rather than a living plant, there is no watering or pruning involved — it holds its shape year-round.
