Why choose artificial boxwood topiary
Faux boxwood makes sense wherever a live shrub would be hard work: a planter that bakes all afternoon, a lobby with no daylight, a hotel entrance that has to look the same in February as in June. The shape is there on the day it arrives, and it stays. What you have to get right is the spot, so each row below starts with where the piece will stand.
Faux boxwood for a front entrance
A pair of boxwood standards is the quickest way to make a front door look finished. The 4 ft double ball is the full outdoor grade, so it can take a sunny step all year, and it comes on a weighted base.
Order both in one go. Artificial foliage is dyed in batches, and the green can shift slightly from one batch to the next, so a second tree bought later may not match the first. Send us a photo of the door if you want a second opinion on height.
Artificial topiary trees for lobbies and dim rooms
Artificial trees need no daylight. That makes them the easy answer for a windowless lobby, a hotel corridor or the dark corner of a restaurant, where a live bay or boxwood would struggle.
Some pieces are made for indoors only, such as the 6 ft bay laurel with its polyester leaves. Keep those inside and back from a sunny window, because ordinary glass lets through the UV that fades plastic foliage. The tall ones are gathered on artificial topiary trees.
Which faux boxwood can take full sun
A pool deck, a rooftop or a step that faces south or west needs the full outdoor grade, which is made for sun all year. A spot under a porch roof, or one shaded for most of the afternoon, can take the lighter UV grade. In direct sun that grade lasts about two and a half years before it fades.
Do not go by the name. A ball with UV in its title can be the lighter grade. Ask us which one a piece is, and read UV-resistant vs UV-proof for what the labels mean.
Fire-safe pieces for venues and trade orders
Hotels, restaurants and event venues usually have to show the fire official NFPA 701 paperwork for artificial plants. Nothing here is fire retardant by default. Many of the outdoor pieces, though, can be ordered in a fire-safe version with the retardant built into the material, which meets NFPA 701 and does not wear off the way a sprayed coating does.

Questions about Artificial Topiary
Will artificial boxwood fade in the sun?
A little, over time. Pieces with UV or ultraviolet in their name are treated to reduce fading, and partial shade keeps any piece brighter for longer. Our page on how to prevent fading covers cleaning and what shortens a piece’s life outdoors.
Can artificial topiary stay outside all year?

How do I clean artificial topiary?
Rinse it with a hose to remove dust or pollen. Nothing else is needed. In strong sun, a UV protectant spray once a year helps a piece that is not already pre-treated.
Does artificial boxwood look real close up?
