A turf dinosaur topiary is a molded fiberglass shell, built up in several layers, covered in dense artificial turf. A few are finished in moss instead of turf. The dinosaurs we carry cost from $6,400 to $37,200 and stand from about 4 and a half feet to over 18 feet tall.
What is under the turf

The body is a multilayer fiberglass shell, also called GRP or glass-reinforced plastic. It is molded to the animal’s anatomy: the curve of the ribs, the set of the jaw, the plates on a stegosaurus. Fiberglass is light for its strength, which is why large sculptures can travel by freight at all.
The outer skin is dense artificial turf, cut and fitted over the shell. Some pieces in the range are finished in moss instead. Turf looks crisper and needs almost no care. Moss looks softer and closer to a planted piece.
The sculptures in our range carry a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects. Turf, moss or boxwood compares the coverings in more detail.
What the sizes mean

Height is measured to the highest point of the animal in its pose. For a rearing dinosaur that may not be the top of its head.
| Height | What it does |
|---|---|
| 4 to 6 feet | Garden scale; stands out in a yard |
| 6 to 9 feet | Attraction scale; people walk over to it |
| 11 feet and up | Landmark scale; needs a route plan and a lift |
4 to 6 feet is garden scale. A 4 foot 11 inch T-Rex stands out in a border without taking over a suburban lot.
6 to 9 feet is attraction scale. A Triceratops at 7 feet 8 inches or a Stegosaurus at 8 feet 8 inches is the reason people walk over. Mini golf courses, garden centers, trails and event lawns buy this band.
11 feet and up is landmark scale. The 11 foot 10 inch T-Rex and the 18 foot dinosaur need a vehicle route to the site and a plan for placing them.
The range goes well past dinosaurs. There are gorillas, pandas with babies, a black swan, an elephant, an iguana chair and a grand piano with a bench.
What they cost
The dinosaurs we carry run from $6,400 to $37,200. The whole turf sculpture range starts at $2,350 for a 4 foot dog.
Height is only a rough guide. Two dinosaurs of about 7 and a half feet are listed at $15,750 and $37,200, depending on the model and the finish. Surface area and detail move the price too: plates, horns, wings and long tails each add shell work.
Large pieces are quoted with delivery rather than priced in a cart. Freight on an 18 foot sculpture is a real number, and it belongs on the quote. What topiary costs puts these prices next to the rest of the range.
Upkeep and weather
Turf needs no watering, feeding or trimming. Rinse it now and then to lift dust. A mossed finish needs the care any mossed piece does.
Wind matters more than rain. A large animal catches the wind like a sail, and an unanchored one on an exposed site can go over. Ask how a piece is meant to be anchored before you choose the spot. None of these sculptures are built to be climbed.
Delivery and installation

Large sculptures come by freight, braced on a pallet or in a crate. On the biggest pieces the quote covers delivery and installation, and the lead time, access and lift needs are worked out at the quote stage.
Measure the route before you order: gate widths, the turn from the road, overhead branches and the ground the truck has to cross. Delivery and receiving sets out what arrives and what you need ready.
Where these earn their keep

People photograph them, and that is the business case. Entrances, mini golf courses, garden trails, event lawns, seasonal attractions and children’s areas are the usual spots. If people wait near it, put it where they can see it.
The full range, smallest first, is in turf topiary sculptures and dinosaurs. For a species or pose that is not in the range, see how a topiary commission works. If you are comparing with a store-bought grass T-Rex, read the HomeGoods dinosaur topiary, and what else to buy.
