A grass-covered T-Rex turned up in HomeGoods, went round TikTok, sold out and left a lot of people searching for one. It was widely reported at about $400. Compare that seasonal piece with the larger sculptures we carry, then make three checks before you buy any grass dinosaur: frame material, UV protection and anchoring.

What the store piece is
A moulded form covered in artificial grass, at garden scale, sold as a seasonal line rather than a permanent one. Reported pricing at the time was $399.99. It appeared with the summer stock and disappeared with it.
At that price it is a good buy. It is the cheapest route to the effect, and it looks striking in a small garden.
A seasonal line comes with limits. Once the stock sells out, you wait for the retailer to run the line again. There is usually no size choice, no pose choice and no route to a replacement part.
Nobody publishes what is inside a piece at that price, either. So you cannot know how long it will last before you buy.
What the next tier up buys
You pay for four things: scale, structure, anchoring and choice. Ours start at $2,350 and run to $37,200 , so this is not a like-for-like comparison.
Scale. The retail piece is garden-sized. Below about five feet a dinosaur decorates a garden. Above about seven it makes people stop the car. Ours run from about four feet to eighteen, so you can choose a four-foot animal for your garden or a nine-foot one to attract attention.
Structure. Ours have a welded steel armature, galvanised, under a moulded shell. That armature decides whether a piece is still standing in ten years. It is also why a large sculpture can be re-covered rather than replaced when the turf eventually tires.
Anchoring. Pieces over six feet carry internal steel tubing and anchor to a footing, with anti-vandal fasteners for public sites. A nine-foot dinosaur at the entrance to a mini-golf course needs all of that.
Choice. You choose species, size and pose. The range also carries the animals nobody stocks seasonally: Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Pterodactyl and long-necks. And it runs well past dinosaurs.

Three things to check on any grass dinosaur
Ask these whoever you buy from, including us.
What is under the grass. Steel, or foam and plastic? Foam is lighter and cheaper, and it is fine indoors or under cover. A galvanised steel armature carries the load in wind, and it is what lets a piece be re-covered rather than thrown away when the surface eventually tires.
Whether the turf is UV-rated, and how. Ask which method a piece uses. Protection spread through the material degrades gradually. A surface coating sits on the outside, so once it has worn the material beneath is unprotected, and the wear is rarely even.
How it is meant to stand. A large animal is a sail. If there is no stated anchoring method and no weight in the base, an exposed position will eventually take it over. That is a safety question as much as a durability one.
So which should you buy
A small garden, a first dinosaur, a fixed budget: the retail piece, if you can find one, or a four-foot animal.
A business, a public site, or somewhere people will photograph it: the larger scale, because the object is there to draw people. A four-foot animal does not draw people from across a car park.
Something that is not a T-Rex: the range, which carries the rest of the menagerie, plus pieces commissioned to a drawing.
