We bend and powder-coat the frame for this rabbit by hand in the workshop, then pack it with sphagnum moss from Oregon so the piece reads as a plant from the day it arrives. It sits at 14 x 14 x 6.5 inches, haunches down and ears up, head lifted as though something has just moved in the grass. The moss shows through the wire in patches, and that is what gives the surface depth rather than the flat wrap of a covered form.
Mossed forms are the planting version of our topiary work. The moss holds water, so you can plant into it and let the growth close over the shape, or leave it as it comes and mist it to keep the colour. Indoors it suits a hall table or a wide sill. Outdoors it sits level on a paver path, a porch step or the edge of a bed.
Every frame is bent and packed by hand, so the dimensions run approximate and no two rabbits come out quite alike.
