This is a live Buxus sempervirens ‘Rotundifolia’, a rounded-leaf English boxwood, clipped into a poodle, or pom-pom, topiary form standing 4 to 5 feet tall.
It’s a dense, evergreen, slow-growing shrub suited to hedges, borders, and formal garden settings, and it needs full sun to part shade, with afternoon shade recommended in hot climates. Keep the soil moist but well-drained and neutral to slightly alkaline, and give it a light, balanced feed in spring and fall. Prune lightly after the spring growth flush to keep the pom-pom shape, and watch for leaf miner, mites, blight, and root rot.
It’s hardy in USDA zones 6b to 9a. That rules out the coldest northern states and the hottest, most humid parts of the Deep South, Southwest, and Hawaii, so check your zone before ordering.
Growth is slow, at roughly 2 to 3 inches a year, so this is already a mature plant rather than one you grow into shape yourself. Being a large live topiary, it ships via LTL freight truck, made to order and quoted with delivery.
