Each spiral is shaped by hand as the plant grows. Cutting that deep opens the trunk between the coils, so you see the structure of the plant along with the foliage.

Boxwood is evergreen, so the color holds through winter. Give it bright indirect light or partial sun. Water consistently, letting the topsoil dry slightly between waterings, and shelter it from extreme heat or frost while it establishes. Trim new growth back to the cut line whenever the coils start to blur.
