At five feet this T-Rex topiary reads as friendly rather than frightening, which is why it lands in playgrounds and family attractions. The one photographed here stands at the edge of a dinosaur-themed play area in Florida, about the height of an adult, with the rest of the play equipment behind it.
It is the larger dinosaur scaled down. A welded steel armature carries the body, the legs continue below the foliage as bare poles that either drive into soft ground or set into cement potting, and the surface is artificial boxwood with dark green teeth and claws worked into the head and arms. The workshop photograph shows the piece before the base is buried.
Put it on soft ground at the edge of a play area, in a themed garden, at a shop entrance, or indoors in a lobby with room around the tail. Anything at child height gets touched, so pick a spot where that does no harm.
