The brief
Brand work has a constraint animal work does not: the shape is not yours. Nobody holds a topiary bear to a reference photograph, but a bottle has proportions people recognise instantly, and a shoulder in the wrong place reads as wrong to everyone.
So the piece began as a dimensioned drawing. The build then becomes a matter of hitting the drawing rather than judging by eye — which is also what makes it repeatable at another size.
A brand object has to be recognisable before it is green. Logo and shape work sits in custom made topiary.

The same form re-scaled for a smaller footprint. A shape that has been drawn once can be built at any size without starting again.
Brand shapes start as a drawing and end as welded steel — the route every piece in custom made topiary takes.
