Internal steel, because it is public space
Every piece over six feet carries steel tubing inside the frame. It costs more, and we will not build a public piece without it. These are not structures for climbing — but if someone does climb on one, it will not fold. Many competitors’ pieces have no inside support at all.

The parts of a commission a photograph does not show, and the reason a piece is still standing in five years.
Internal steel tubing above six feet
Anything over six feet gets steel tubing run inside the frame. Our pieces are not built for climbing — but if someone does climb on one, the structure will not fold. Many competitors’ frames carry no internal support at all.
Stainless, galvanised or powder-coated
The armature is welded steel, finished against corrosion for wherever it is going, and built to outlive the foliage on it rather than to hold a shape for one season.
Installed by us, and watered by itself
On-site installation for anything large, across the US and Canada. Live pieces can have automatic irrigation built in, so nobody has to remember them.

Send the site and the brief
Photographs, dimensions and what the piece has to do. A site plan helps but is not needed to start the conversation.

We return a design, a specification and a price
Materials, dimensions, anchoring and finish, in a form you can put in front of a committee or into a tender.

We build and weatherproof it here
Frame welded and finished in our own workshop, with progress photographs so approval does not wait until delivery day.

Installation and anchoring handled, with a maintenance note so whoever looks after the site knows what the piece needs.

Before you ask for a quote.
Can you work to a municipal procurement process?
We work to municipal procurement and supply the specification, materials list and drawings a tender needs. Tell us the format your office wants and the deadline it has to meet.
How are topiary sculptures anchored?
Topiary sculptures are anchored to suit the site — ground stakes into soil, weighted bases on hard standing, or bolt-down plates where a permanent fixing is allowed. The anchoring is designed with the piece rather than after it.
What maintenance does a public piece need?
Very little. Cleaning occasionally and an inspection of the frame. We supply a maintenance note with the piece and can quote for a periodic refresh.
Is it safe if someone climbs on it?
Our pieces are not built for climbing and should not be climbed. They are engineered so that if someone does climb on one, the structure will not fold: everything over six feet carries steel tubing inside the frame. Many competitors’ frames have no internal support at all.
How long do outdoor topiary sculptures last?
Outdoor pieces on galvanised or powder-coated frames last for years, and the frame outlives the foliage. We will tell you honestly what to expect in your climate rather than quote a number that suits us.
Can a sculpture be lit for night?
Sculptures can be lit, with the lighting built into the frame rather than added afterwards. Say so at design stage so the wiring route is planned in.
Can you build a whole collection to one theme?
A collection to one theme is the work we prefer — one standard, one schedule, one delivery, and every piece recognisably part of the same set.
