Clematis The Vagabond

Clematis The Vagabond (Ken Pyne, 1984) is short of stature but free flowering. The 6 8 sepals are velvety purple blue with reddish bars. The sharply contrasting stamens are made up of white filaments with creamy anthers. Early flowering in the spring on the previous year's growth. An ideal candidate for adding to moss animal topiaries. If you hard prune, you eliminate most or all of the early blooms. Instead, groom this after flowering by cutting back the top one third to one half of some stems. This encourages new growth for possible summer bloom. Seasonality is May to June; August to October. Measurements are around 5 to 6 feet Colors are Purple Blue flowers Hardiness Zones: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
